Matrescence and Resilience
The challenges of the perinatal period, the hormonal swings and the sleepless nights can prove to a mum just how resilient she can be. The balance between stress and calm is negotiated in the early weeks and remains a life-skill that helps a mum throughout her life.
Matrescence and Efficiency
The ability to multitask is a skill developed by mums in the early days. Taking on a new 24 hour job with little or no training, whilst maintaining other jobs, life necessities and social contacts with little sleep means that priorities are changing on a minute by minute basis and multitasking is a necessity.
Matrescence- The Bigger Picture
During pregnancy and becoming a mother, this increased awareness of the messages from each of our senses is vital. We need to be aware of what we sense in our surroundings in order to protect both ourselves and our young. Test this out in the light of your own experiences and those of mothers that you know.
Matrescence – an overview
We know a lot about ‘Adolescence’ but less so about ‘Matrescence’ However, everyone knows that motherhood changes a woman. Strangely we have lived for a hundred years as if it doesn’t, as if we are waiting to return to ‘normal’ as if becoming a mother somehow makes us less than we were – and more recently as if we are an interchangeable ‘generic’ parent.
